The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Faruq Lawal Jobe, has reiterated the government’s determination to intensify the fight against banditry and other security threats. He made the remarks on Saturday after chairing a State Security Council meeting and commissioning newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) at the Government House in Katsina.

Speaking to journalists, Jobe described the recent attack on Unguwar Mantau community as “tragic and deeply regrettable,” stressing that the state government remains resolute in protecting lives and property.

“We have invested billions of naira in security operations, including training of personnel and establishing Community Watch,” he said.

According to him, the combined efforts of security agencies and local communities have brought relative calm to four of the eight local government areas worst affected by banditry. He also commended residents for their resilience in the face of repeated attacks.

On rescue operations, Jobe confirmed that 76 abducted persons were freed on Saturday morning, in addition to others who managed to escape while being moved by the gunmen.

To further strengthen security, the state government has taken delivery of new APCs while seeking additional federal support. “We are receiving reinforcements in manpower and equipment. The Chief of Army Staff will be in Katsina tomorrow to assess the situation,” Jobe added.

He, however, noted that despite pushing bandits out of several communities into forest hideouts, the terrain requires greater synergy between ground troops and the Air Force.

Jobe also praised the public for providing timely intelligence reports, which he said had played a vital role in recent security successes.

“We will not be distracted. We shall continue this fight until peace and security are fully restored in Katsina,” the Deputy Governor declared.
